Tarsus, a city in south-central Turkey, lies in the heart of the fertile Çukurova region—the ancient gateway between the Mediterranean and the Middle East and Central Asia. Once home to Mark Antony, Cleopatra, and Cicero, this 6000-year-old city is not only one of the most agriculturally productive areas in the world, it’s also grown into a commercial center for agriculture-based manufacturers.
Cumitas, or Çukurova Makina, is one of these companies.
A manufacturer of earth-moving and industrial machinery, Cumitas successfully blends world-renowned components from global manufacturers with the latest technologies to create its high-quality forklift trucks, backhoe loaders, wheel loaders, and excavators.

According to the company website, Cumitas closely follows technology trends and works with the world’s leading universities, research centers, and pioneering technology companies to build new, experimental solutions and products.
However, the company’s reliance on AutoCAD, a 2D CAD system, was more closely aligning Cumitas with Çukurova’s reputation for antiquity than the cutting-edge. To realign its outdated processes with its innovative philosophy, Cumitas decided to migrate its product development system from 2D to 3D. In doing so, the company hoped to minimize its production costs, while still maintaining the exceptional quality of its machines.
Cumitas benchmarked CATIA; however, the company ultimately chose PTC Creo and its integrated extension, PTC Creo Simulate. Selected and deployed with help from the INFOMA Group, an authorized PTC Reseller, this solution offered Cumitas the ability to design, engineer, and manufacture its products—all in one solution, all on one screen.
Now, Cumitas engineers use the easy-to-use interface of PTC Creo to quickly and easily create 3D models. Engineers then use PTC Creo Simulate to test and analyze those models, using a full range of Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) analyses and a comprehensive set of finite elements analysis (FEA) capabilities. As a result, Cumitas can now detect production issues early and visually—before manufacturing a single part.
Not only does this process increase product durability, reliability, and safety, it lowers production costs by decreasing the need for physical prototypes. At Cumitas, PTC Creo Simulate has minimized production errors, improved product quality, and decreased the cost of prototypes by 35%.
Even in a challenging market, Cumitas is now poised to expand and develop its global dealer network, demonstrating a greater competitive advantage in all of its regions, which today, spans over 50 countries in the world.
